Ulsan Online Is Back: A Fresh New Start for the Expat Community

Welcome back to Ulsan Online! After months of hard work, the site has finally relaunched, and we’re excited to continue serving the expat community in Ulsan. While things may look a little sparse right now, rest assured—we’re rebuilding the site from the ground up to make it better, safer, and more informative than ever before.

Why Ulsan Online Had to Start Over

Let’s face it: the original Ulsan Online site had its fair share of issues. Malware and hacks plagued the site for years, largely due to its outdated structure. The site, which was initially built in 2007, had multiple WordPress installations linked to one homepage—a setup that was likely a solid choice back then but became a security nightmare over time.

The first few years the site looked like this (2008)

The Struggles with Malware

When I took over Ulsan Online in 2014, it was in poor condition. Malware had infected large parts of the site, making some sections unreadable and even unsafe for visitors. I spent significant time and resources trying to clean it up, including hiring web developers to redesign the site and restore its functionality. Although we managed to fix it temporarily, the problem kept returning. Over the years, bots and malicious software continued to target the site, causing irreversible damage.

The Solution: A Complete Overhaul

Rather than continue patching up the old site, I decided it was time for drastic action. I backed up all the important content and deleted the entire site to start fresh. Now, we’re in the process of rebuilding everything from scratch, ensuring a secure and stable platform for users.

What to Expect Moving Forward

With the site starting fresh, you’ll see new versions of old articles, as well as fresh content specifically tailored to Ulsan’s expat community. While popular apps like Kakao and Naver have made some of the old resources (like bus routes and schedules) less necessary, there’s still a strong need for up-to-date information about life in Ulsan.

After taking over, the updates and the malware saga began…

We’ll also be updating basic expat guides and resources that are still highly relevant. Many of the common questions asked in our Facebook group will now be addressed on the revamped site. It’s going to take time, but my goal is to provide useful, updated content on a weekly basis.

Why Ulsan Online Is Still Important

Though technology has evolved, Ulsan Online remains a valuable resource for expats living in or moving to Ulsan. From finding local services to understanding the basics of life in South Korea, Ulsan Online will continue to be the go-to source for answers. With a fresh new look and structure, the site is ready to serve its community once again.

Thank You for Your Patience

Rebuilding a site like Ulsan Online from the ground up is no small task. I appreciate your patience as I work through this process and slowly bring the site back to its former glory—with some improvements, of course. Please stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to reach out with any feedback or questions.

Thank you for sticking with Ulsan Online, and I look forward to sharing new content with you soon!
